CenTech Park East
CenTech Park East is a proposed technology park located in the town of Shrewsbury. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management awarded the WBDC the development rights to 84-acres of surplus Grafton State Hospital land adjacent to the existing CenTech Park. The development of CenTech Park East will yield complementary uses to CenTech Park, accommodating industrial and biotechnology industries, creating jobs and attracting substantial private investment for the towns of Grafton and Shrewsbury.
CenTech Park East is located next to CenTech Park, the Grafton MBTA Commuter Rail station and Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. As part of the CenTech Park East development, the WBDC currently owns 20.1 acres, known as Lot 9, which is permitted and ready for development. Access to Lot 9 is directly off CenTech Boulevard, an access road that the WBDC and the Town of Shrewsbury constructed in 2004 with an EDA infrastructure grant. Also making this a desirable development, CenTech East is included in an agreement with the towns of Shrewsbury and Grafton, providing water and sewer to the area through an intermunicipal agreement that has been approved by both communities.
In August, 2008 the WBDC and the Town of Shrewsbury was awarded a $2,000,000 grant to fund the construction of additional infrastructure, including an access road, to serve CenTech East. With road access through Lot 9, the remaining acreage of CenTech Park East is available for prime development. As a result of this infrastructure, CenTech East will be able to support approximately 650,000 square feet of building with the potential to create 600 jobs, contributing to the community’s overall tax base.
